Recreational Player:
Are you a player who is still in the early learning stage, not yet into the heavy spins? Try:
- LoopSonic Transformer premade racket (Flared or Penhold) The speed is medium to medium-low, and the spin is medium-low. This is perfect for recreational players and people learning heavier spins for the first time because it gives you enough control to try the strokes but has enough spin to help you understand the mechanics of spin. It's basically half-way between the cheap rackets you find at Canadian Tire and FG Bradleys (which can't really generate spin) and the competition-level rackets.

Amateur Player:
Are you taking the first step up from basement players? Learning how to "loop"? Try:
- R2 blade with 2008 XP rubbers
This is a lower-end competitive-level racket with smooth (inverted), grippy rubbers. The speed is medium, even on the high end of medium. And the rubbers will give you great spin. It's well-rounded for all styles of play, so it's a great option to use while you're deciding on different styles, like aggressive attackers who loop from forehand and backhand, or defensive choppers. It's a very economical combo and gives you the full taste of what better equipment is like. You'll be able to pull off mean loop drives (once you get the proper strokes).
-
Advanced Player:
There are too many styles to effectively make generic recommendations. You may want short pips or long pips to negate spins or create funky knuckleballs, or you may want very tacky (sticky) rubbers for spinny loops, or non-tacky European/Japanese-style rubbers for better power loops from further away from the table.
- Dawei Inspirit Quattro
This is the fastest rubber I have by far. It has a sort of "built-in speed glue effect". Though it's not as strong as real speed glue, it's halfway there. The problem with this rubber is that it's hard to control for short drop-shots since it's so fast. So choose wisely. The topsheet is very mildly tacky, so it's more of a Euro/Japanese style rubber (but at a third of the cost!) Players who want to stop speed-gluing (especially for the VOC speed glue ban coming up) should give this a try.
- Dawei Inspirit Quattro Ultralight UL
This is the new, lighter version of the Inspirit Quattro. It isn't quite as fast, but this is now the Chinese equivalent of the lighter non-tacky European/Japanese rubbers. Anyone using expensive Butterfly, Donic and Yasaka rubbers should give this a try, you may just find a more affordable substitute to the expensive brands.
- Dawei Inspirit
This came before the Inspirit Quattro, so it doesn't have the speed glue effect. But people have compared its speed to the Bryce FX, saying that it's a bit slower than Bryce FX, but with more spin and control. It has gotten many great reviews online. Again it's comparable to the expensive brands but costs much less. Players who are using European/Japanese favourites like Bryce, Sriver or Mark V should give this a try.
- Cream MRS
This rubber has been a personal favourite of mine because it's well-rounded. The topsheet isn't as tacky as most other Chinese rubbers, but is tacky enough to generate tons of spin. It's not blazing fast like the Inspirit Quattro but is no slouch and is great for a controlled style.
